Greetings, land agents!
The Land Staff has been making improvements to our website in preparation for the new year, and I want to highlight a few things that have changed:
We need to keep the communication between you and us secure. This meaans:
You may be prompted to change your password when you login for the first time after registration opens. This is due to some security updates, and should be a one-time thing. If you haven't done this yet, you will be forced to do this immediately.
You will also be asked to confirm your contact information. This will happen every year, the first time you login for the season, so that we can make sure that we have the correct information for you. You will be reminded of this until you have completed this task, but you will be able to look at the site before you do. You will not be able to register a group until you have completed this task.
We'll send a confirmation email to the address you give us with a validation link for you to click. Until you do that, you won't be able to register a group. As a land agent, you are agreeing to check your email frequently and respond to emails related to Pennsic in a timely manner.
You'll also be required to attest that you have read The Rules. They change, and you, as a Land Agent, Proxy, or On-Site representative are responsible for knowing what they say. If you do not check it, this also will keep you from being able to register a group or make certain post-registration changes.
A lot of folks have asked "Has this been page or map been updated?". The site now lists the revision date of the source code for each page and where the page is just a wrapper around a stored document or map, the revision date for that contained data.
If you've registered a group, you can now unregister yourself if that was a mistake. The group you leave is ready for a new agent to just go and register. You used to have to get LandWeb to fix this for you, now it's self-service.
The single biggest question that we get is "I'm looking to move to a new block. How full was block name?" To help make this easier for everyone, we've added block history on the maps pages! You can see how full a block was over the years (going back ten years), and a big overview on the main map page. There's a thing though: Just square footage alone doesn't really give you the story on a block, which you should know if you've camped for more than a few years. This is the old "That area gets wet, let's put the single campers there." thing in that some land is more desirable and less desirable based on other external conditions. Because of this, when a block is almost full, instead of just showing you likely misleading raw data, we'll mark it as "You really need to go look, or at least reach out to land staff."
We've added the long-requested ability to modify your security question and answer for password resets. That's on your agent profile page.
If you're on a block that has split, you may see "Old" blocks. We've updated how we handled history in the database and this is an artifact of that. Very importantly, your seniority is not changed by this. If you were on N18 and you're in the part that is now N19, you still will have seniority for all those years even though your history now says "Old N18" for all but one of those years.
When we split a block, if that block was one of your block choices, that entry is now reset and you'll have to go and pick the part of that block you want to be in. Even if you've already completed your registration, you'll get a big warning on your main page. This year, this applies to folks who were camping in B09 last year which is split into B08 and B09. Please attend to that in a timely manner.
Bread Crumbs. Above the pinkish menu bar, there is a row of bread crumbs which can take you back to pages "above" your current one, up to and including the main Pennsic website. "Home" for this site is the "Zoning and Planning (Land)" entry.
You may notice some differences on the home page when you log in, especially as we get closer to Pennsic: the people you have selected as proxy and as on-site rep will be listed on your home page after you log in. If someone else has listed you as an on-site rep or a proxy, that will be listed too, and you will have the opportunity to reject the selection if you so choose.
You will also probably notice some differences on the group profile page:
Proxies! We've made it possible for you to designate a proxy via the website! There is a restriction - the person that you assign to be your proxy must have a current (i.e. with updated contact information) account in our system - they will not show up in the searchable drop-down for proxies if they do not have a current account. This is so that we have their contact information in our system. This functionality will also be disabled once we reach the proxy deadline just before Pennsic. After that, you will need to contact Land One if you need to designate an emergency proxy, as usual.
On-site representatives were already available on the group profile, but now you must select them from a searchable drop-down list. The same restrictions apply as for proxies - your on-site rep needs to have a current account in our system. This way we know we have their contact info, in case we need to reach them.
If you are the proxy or the on-site representative for a group, you have access to the pre-regs list and group history for those groups.
We added a feature where you can see your current plus two years years of pre-reg history in a side-by-side format. The history data may not be perfect, but it was correct as of the end of preregistration for the year the data was for.
On your prereg page, you may see a bonus. If you have certain Pennsic War staff in your camp, you may get bonus square footage. After Land Allocation starts, you may see small positive or negative numbers for your bonus, indicating that land staff is making everyone fit.
If you have any questions about these changes, or have any difficulties logging in, etc., please reach out to us at landweb@pennsicwar.org
